    GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS:

The EMPIRE Systems Heated Make Up Air Unit is a UL Listed, direct fired gas burning unit for use in tempering make-up air for installations requiring frequent air changes. The units conform to ANSI Z83.4 Standards and produce up to 1,000,000 BTU/HR, depending on heating requirements. Units are designed for natural or propane gas applications. The heaters are intended for indoor or outdoor installations in commercial kitchens, factories, foundries and similar commercial and industrial occupancies where unvented open-flame combustion equipment is permitted. They are intended to be installedand used in accordance with the Standards of the National Fire Protection Association, NFPA No.54 and the National Fuel Gas Code.

The unit is UL Listed for discharge in the upflow, downflow or horizontal positions and in combination with a centrifugal upblast exhaust fan. Each unit is equipped with controls having the capabilities of stand alone operation or interfacing with the total integrated system controls including additional fans, hood light controls and the fire system. These controls are located either in a UL Listed Control Panel installed in the ventilation hood's utility cabinet or in a stainless steel remote panel. Units consist of a galvanized casing with an elevated gas burner which burns directly in the circulating air stream. The products of combustion mix with the make-up air which is introduced into the heater intake directly from outside the building and the resultant mixture is forced into the building by a centrifugal type blower. Units are equipped with redundant safety controls. In the event of flame loss, all gas is shut off to the burner.

Units are factory assembled, tested and shipped as a complete package, consisting of the following:

    1. Gas burner
    2. Centrifugal blower
    3. Motor and adjustable drive assembly
    4. Fuel burning safety equipment
    5. Temperature control system
    6. Gas piping
    7. Optional contactor and overload (for three phase applications)
    8. External service disconnect (with integrated auxiliary contacts for control circuit, when required)
    9. Intake hood with easily removable 1" thick, UL Listed, cleanable Class 2 filters
    10. An observation port is located on the exterior of the unit to observe the main flame. The unit is provided with two access doors for easy access to the Electrical Controls and Blower/Motor Assembly.

    BLOWERS, MOTORS AND DRIVES

    1. Blowers are forward curved, belt driven, double inlet, centrifugal type and contain permanently lubricated bearings. Blowers are covered with an enamel finish. Blower sizes range from 10 inch to 25 inch wheel diameter.
    2. Blowers are factory tested and set at rated speed after installation in the factory assembled unit. Blower shafts are equipped with keyways.
    3. The blower compartment is completely insulated with UL Listed Class 1 foil-faced fiberglass insulation, 1 inch thick.
    4. Motor pulley is adjustable for balancing CFM's.
    5. UL Recognized motors are open drip proof type with adjustable drives and motor mount. Adjustable cast iron pulleys and heavy duty belt(s) are standard.
    6. Motor shafts have keyways.
    7. A Discharge Air Sensor measures discharge air temperature and sends a signal back to the controller which modulates the gas flow to achieve desired temperature (not shown).

    SPECIFICATIONS:

    BURNER

    1. The gas burner is a direct-fired, draw through type, and is sized to provide the desired output using natural or propane gas at an inlet supply pressure to the unit of 7" water column (natural gas) or 11"(propane).
    2. The gas burner provides a maximum temperature rise of 100°F. For example, outside air of -30°F. can be heated to +70°F. The flame extends the entire length of the burner at all times when the system is in operation.
    3. The burner consists of non-clogging, stainless steel combustion baffles attached to a cast iron gas supply section with no moving parts. The burner is capable of 100% thermal efficiency with a maximum turndown ratio of 30 to 1.
    4. An ultraviolet flame detection system is used to prove flame.
    5. A Spark Igniter provides spark to initiate combustion.

    WIRING AND ELECTRICAL

    1. The control circuit voltage is 115 VAC.
    2. Wiring in control enclosures is in accordance with the National Electrical Code.
    3. For 3-phase applications, an optional starter can be located in the EMPIRE Systems kitchen ventilation hood utility cabinet or in the heater unit.

    STEPPED DIRECT IGNITION SYSTEM

    1. Employs a spark ignited proved pilot before allowing full burner operation. This system conforms to AGA's ANSI Standard Z83.4.
    2. High reliability with fewer gas handling parts (reduces possibility of leakage).

    QUALITY ASSURANCE

Each unit is meticulously inspected and tested at the factory for the following:

    1. COMBUSTION EFFICIENCY (values represent ANSI Z83.4 Standards)
Carbon Monoxide<= 5 ppm maximum average concentration added to
      air stream
Aliphatic Aldehydes <= 1.0 ppm maximum average concentration added
      to air stream
Nitrogen Dioxide <= 0.50 ppm maximum average concentration added to
      air stream
Carbon Dioxide <= 4000 ppm maximum average concentration added to
      air stream
    2. CFM AND BTU VERIFICATION
    3. LEAKAGE OF FUEL HANDLING PARTS
    4. OPERATION OF MOVING PARTS AT RATED SPEED
    5. MOTOR INPUT RATING
    6. DIELECTRIC STRENGTH
    7. OPERATION OF SYSTEM SAFETY CONTROLS
    8. RAW MATERIAL CONFORMANCE TO SPECIFICATION
    9. OVERALL AESTHETICS
    10. ALL OPTIONS INSTALLED AND TESTED

NOTE: Since field conditions may vary from submitted specifications, the "Start Up Check List" must be completed to insure proper operation. Warranty coverage is only validated after the start-up has been completed
